Household Register Discrimination in the Labor Market of Northeast City

Abstract

This article apply micro-econometrics method to analyze the difference of wage, industry distribution and social insurance between migrant workers and urban workers in the Labor market of Chinese northeast city. The results show that 16% of the wage gap,50% of the industry distribution differences,and 43% of the social insurance difference between the rural migrant workers and urban workers is caused by household register discrimination; 48% of the labor remuneration difference is caused by personal characteristics difference, the professional segmentation discrimination, industry wage discrimination and industry welfare discrimination cause 23%, 16%, 23% of the labor remuneration difference. Therefore, the design and implementation of fair labor employment system, salary system and welfare system, help to narrow the labor remuneration gap between migrant workers and urban workers.
