A Brief Introduction to Center for Quantitative Economics of Jilin University

Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of the MoE

Quantitative Economics Research Center of Jilin University was established in October 1999, and was accredited Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education on September 25th, 2000.The  Center has 58 research fellows. Among the researchers, there are  37 professors ,21 associate professors, 33 doctoral tutors ,and 25 Master tutors. One Senior Professor of Philosophy and Social Sciences of Jilin  University,  one distinguished Professor and one Chaired Professor from “Changjiang River Scholar” program of Ministry of Education, One Professor was selected for the "Millions of Million Talents Project", and the "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" of philosophy and social science , one Professor was selected for outstanding young talent of the "Ten Thousand Talents Project".Five professors  has been named New Century Outstanding Talents of the Ministry of Education.

During the 14th Five-year Plan period, center takes "new era adhere to the direction of common prosperity of high quality economic development theory and practice" as the main direction to carry out the major subject research in the field of  the realization of common prosperity distribution system and policy research, technological innovation to promote economic growth, consumption and supply synergy upgrade market mechanism and policy choice, financial effective support economic development of high quality system mechanism and risk management, macroeconomic regulation and control system optimization and other fields .Now the center has set up the administrative office, the editorial Department of The Journal of Quantitative Economics, the Data algorithm and Economic Decision-making Laboratory and other functional institutions. All of the work is being carried out in an orderly manner under the guidance of independent academic committee.

Since its foundation, which it adheres to the combination of theoretical research and applied research, quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, focus on major disciplines in the field of society, economy, and produces a batch of high level research results in the aspect of economic situation analysis and prediction, economic policy theory and evaluation, financial market and financial risk, microeconomic measurement and simulation, the power of economic research paradigm direction,so far, The center has undertaken more than 200 national and provincial research projects, such as the National Social Science Foundation and natural Science Foundation, Among them, 9 major projects of the National Social Science Fund, 4 major key research projects of the Ministry of Education, One special project of the National Social Science Fund, A national library of philosophy and social science achievements; Published hundreds of papers in domestic and foreign core journals such as Chinese Social Science, Economic Research, Management World, Quantitative and Technical and Economic Research; More than 40 provincial and above awards, among, 6 Awards of Scientific Research of Ministry of Education (Humanities and Social Sciences), More than 70 Outstanding Social Science Achievement awards in Jilin Province, More than 40 research reports have been adopted by national ministries and provincial and municipal departments.

In recent years, the center has focused on the construction of a high-level international academic exchange platform, and shaped a good academic ecology for the development of quantitative economic disciplines and talent cultivation. As the vice president institution of China Society of Quantitative Economics, the director institution of China Economics Annual Conference,and Initiator &Joint unit of Transdisciplinary Econometrics & Data Science Seminar，(TEDS).

Center has held more than ten influential international academic conference, and held for many years " Jilin University economic international workshop", " Jilin University economic famous academic lectures at home and abroad forum", "high quantitative economic young scholars at home and abroad academic forum " and "high quantity economic academic forum" series of academic activities, the high recognition and extensive attention at home and abroad.

In terms of think tank construction, the center has been committed to consultation and advice, serving the country's major macroeconomic decisions and the revitalization of northeast China. In 2017, it was selected into the top 100 University Think Tanks of China Think Tank Index (CTTI); in 2019, it entered the PAI score list of think tanks in the field of "Macroeconomy and International Trade" and ranked fifth in the 49 "Macroeconomy and international trade"; in 2022, it was selected into "CTTI2022 Top10 0 University Think Tanks", and is the only scientific research institution of the top 100 University think tanks in Jilin University. In addition, the Center and the China (Hainan) Institute for Reform and Development established the "Jilin University-Quantitative Economic Policy Research Center of the China (Hainan) Institute for Reform and Development". The establishment of this center is conducive to strengthening the advantages of the quantitative economic discipline in our school, and promoting the close combination of theoretical research and empirical analysis. In the future, the Center will further strive to build the Center into a new think tank with dual advantages of economic basic theoretical research and economic policy advisory through the organic combination of the economic policy quantitative research strength and the influence of economic policy advisory services.

In terms of journal construction, The Journal of Quantitative Economics, a collection sponsored by the Center, has been first published in 2010, with strong support from academic experts and scholars, and has achieved great academic influence. In 2017, it was selected into the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) source Collection, and was included in the full text of CNKI Chinese Academic Journal Network Publishing Bank. From 2017 to 2022, it won the Outstanding Collection Award of Social Sciences Academic Press for six consecutive years. In 2022, it was awarded as the AMI Collection of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences Journal. Since 2019, Quantitative Economy Research has become a quarterly journal, with the fourth editorial board composed of famous experts and scholars from home and abroad, including the United States and Japan. After the revision of quantitative economic research continues to emphasize manuscript academic, forward-looking, empirical and normative at the same time, further broaden the international vision, focusing on mathematical economics, econometrics and applied economics of other disciplines theory, method and applied research, has become China quantitative economics widely accepted and one of the high level academic journals.

In the evaluation of key research bases of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, the Quantitative Economic Research Center of Jilin University has achieved excellent results. During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, among the 24 key research bases, the landmark achievements, the second and the third in representative achievements, and the sixth in comprehensive achievements; during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the top of the 105 bases based on basic research again, the first in development index and the fifth in social service index. In the future, the Center will continue to forge ahead, complete the goals of the 14th Five-Year Plan with high quality, create a research environment with complete functions and perfect management, and strive to build itself into a first-class humanities and social science research base at home and abroad.
