Abstract: The implementation of compulsory schooling law provides a specific research background for us to explore the relationship between education and income. Under the influence of this policy, the educational distribution of groups born in 1979 and later has changed compared with before. On average, after the implementation of the compulsory education law, the length of schooling of men increased by about 0.8 years, and that of women increased by 1.6-1.9 years. Moreover, the popularization rate of junior high school education and senior high school education of rural residents and urban residents has been significantly improved. At the same time, there is a big difference between urban and rural areas in China's education development, and the income effect of compulsory education law is not significant. Therefore, at present, basic education is no longer the main educational factor to increase residents' income, and the government should formulate a reasonable educational development plan to expand the ways to increase income.
